Choosing A Wedding Gift For Your Groom

Most couples like to give each other a special gift on their wedding day, and like most brides, you will want to give your groom something that not only shows how much he means to you, but something he will treasure forever. So although you may be up to your eyes with guest lists, menus and seating plans, you need to allow yourself some quiet time to find just the right gift for your husband-to-be.

Take a look at a few ideas I’ve come up with. Hopefully you might find them helpful.

1. Flight Lesson

Providing your groom has a real sense of adventure, and isn’t afraid of heights, a flying lesson could be the perfect gift. Choose from light aircraft, helicopter, glider, or even a vintage Tiger Moth.

But if you think he would be happier keeping his feet on the ground, then how about 60 minutes as a fighter pilot in a flight simulator. Sitting in the cockpit of a genuine fighter jet, wearing full flight suit, anti G pants, helmet and mask, accompanied by a trained instructor is certainly one experience he will never forget.

2. Drive in a Supercar

What man wouldn’t love the chance to drive a beautiful shiny supercar on a racetrack. These are real big boy’s toys and there are lots of different models to choose from, including Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

Imagine – 0 – 60 in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 183 miles per hour – surely an experience your man will never stop talking about.

3. Early Edition Book

If your groom is an avid reader, then what better gift than a first edition copy of a book by his favourite author. Or better still, a signed copy. It’s often surprising what little treasures can be found in the antique markets and secondhand book shops.

About 10 years ago, while staying at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, I discovered there was an antique book shop in the hotel. I was lucky enough to get hold of an early edition Stephen King book. As my husband is a great fan I put this away and gave it to him on our wedding day. He was delighted.

4. V.I.P Baseball Tour

If your husband-to-be is a baseball fan, then a tour of the Yankee stadium, accompanied by a Yankee legend, followed by lunch is certainly something he will always remember. Or maybe he would like to sit in one of the new luxury suites and watch the game with many of the Yankee legends.

Air-conditioned seating inside gives a perfect view of the field. The suites all boast HD-tv screens, rest rooms, a buffet with non-alcoholic drinks and a cash bar. Many of the recent legends are on hand to tell stories and sign autographs and memorabilia. All in all an unforgettable day for any baseball fan.

5. Skydiving

How about giving your groom the chance to jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet. This is not for everyone so be sure he has a head for heights. If you think this is a step too far, then how about booking him a tandem skydive.

This way he would be strapped to an experienced instructor and they would hurtle safely to the ground at a speed of 200 meters per second. Must be truly exhilarating!

6. A Beautiful Keepsake

Of course, one of the most traditional gifts a bride can give her groom on their wedding day is a watch. It’s something that is not only practical but also an heirloom which can be passed down to any children that may come along in the future.

The watch can be engraved with your names or initials, and the date of the marriage, and a personal message of love. A beautiful gold watch is probably one of the most romantic gifts a bride can give to her new husband.

7. The Gift of Love

Gifts to someone special are not always about bells and whistles. Sometimes the smallest of gifts can mean so much and show someone just how much you love them.

A pair of cufflinks for instance, engraved with your wedding date to wear at your wedding are a perfect way to say ‘thank you for choosing to spend the rest of your life with me’.
