7 Favourite Highlights From My Wedding Day

It’s been 14 months now since my wedding, and I still treasure every minute of that day.

Everything was perfect, the weather was kind to us and we were surrounded by all the people that are special to us.

It’s been quite difficult to pick which were my favourite parts of my wedding day, but I’ve chosen these 7 to share with you:

1. A Romantic Entrance

Because we wanted our wedding to be a little bit different, and maybe hold a few surprises for our guests, we decided to ask our officiant if we could choose our own entrance music.

We were delighted when he gave us permission. It meant I didn’t have to make my entrance to the traditional wedding march. Instead we chose ‘I Do by Westlife’.

It’s such a lovely song and our guests were so surprised, and it will always be one of those moments I will never forget.

2. Children Very Welcome

We made a decision to invite children to our wedding – well, actually we didn’t really have to discuss it – we just knew it was a family occasion, and we wanted all the children to be a part of it.

And as we danced our first dance together and I saw all the children sat on the floor, absolutely mesmerised as they watched us, I just knew having the kids at our wedding was the right decision.

3. Singles Please Bring a Guest

As with the previous decision, we didn’t need to think about it, we just knew we wanted all our single relations and friends to bring a guest.

It was really important to us that every person who was kind enough to join us and be a part of our day had a good time.

So that meant no-one was ever going to be sat alone or feeling so uncomfortable that they wished they had not come.

4. No Cash Bar

We didn’t want to have a cash bar. Our budget didn’t allow for us to give a free bar and we didn’t feel it was right to invite people to our wedding and then expect them to spend money.

So we compromised by putting bottles of wine, fruit juice and still water on every table. And as far as I am aware, no-one was upset about this, and everybody had a great night.

5. Family Photographer

When it came to our photographs we were really lucky. My husband’s younger brother is studying photography at an art institute, so of course we asked him to be our wedding photographer.

He was more than willing to take on this job as it helped to build his portfolio. Our wedding  pictures were amazing.

Thanks Mark!

6. Evening Barn Dance

When it came to our evening entertainment, we wanted something that everybody, from the youngest to the oldest would enjoy.

So we plumped for a barn dance, or a hoe-down as some called it (even though we weren’t in a barn.) Although it was called a barn dance, I think it was a cross between line-dancing and country dancing.

The live band and the caller were just amazing. It was so much fun. As I looked around the hall, everyone was laughing and having a great time. Every single person, from the youngest to the oldest was up on their feet.

I can’t remember when I ever had so much fun!

7. The Best Surprise Of All!

Because we already had a home together, we’d told our guests we didn’t need a present, that  their company at our wedding was all we wanted.

The following morning we left for the airport and set off on honeymoon. But when we got to check-in we were in for the surprise of our lives.

Our lovely, lovely families and friends had clubbed together and upgraded our flights.

So we were invited to spent the next 3 hours before our flight took off relaxing in the hospitality lounge, where we were offered complimentary beauty treatments, manicures and pedicures. And complimentary food, coffee, soft drinks and newspapers.

Then would you believe, we were called to board our flight before all the other passengers, and flew in the first class upper deck to New York, aboard a Virgin Airline plane.

First class to New York! How amazing is that?

What a way to round off a perfect wedding day. A first class flight to New York. Something I thought I would never experience in a dozen lifetimes. Thank you to my wonderful families and friends.

So till next time
Take care

Jennifer.
