7 Secret Hideaways For A Romantic Honeymoon

Every engaged couple looks forward to planning their wedding, especially when it comes to the honeymoon. Deciding where to go is always exciting, but with so many options how do you choose where you will spend your first days as man and wife?

Will it be paradise island, or a city break, or maybe a cruise, or an adventure on safari? Or maybe you like the idea of a secret hideaway,  just for the two of you.

Check out these 7 little gems which are all off the beaten track. One of them might be just what you are looking for.

1. The Lodge Chiswick

The Lodge on the banks of the river Eamont in the Lake District, is one of the most romantic secret hideaways I have ever come across. This charming little log cabin, comfortably nestled in a clearing amongst the trees and woodland is a perfect location for a honeymoon.

Inside the cabin is an open plan kitchen and lounge, offering comfortable sofas and a wood burner. A wrought iron staircase leads to a master bedroom, and sliding doors open onto a veranda.

Here you can just lose yourself in the tranquility, the trickle of the water in the river, the wildlife, and the beautiful scenery. Nearby there are several pubs, salmon and trout fishing, mountain bike hire and horse and cart rides. And of course, there is the the whole of the famous Lake District to explore.

2. Cider House Brecon Beacons

Cider House is set just outside the boundary of the Brecon Beacons National Park. This beautiful cottage sits in a tranquil garden where there is a private patio area with table and chairs.

Inside can be found a stylish living room with cosy sofa and log burner, a fully equipped kitchen and a luxurious bedroom and bathroom. A short walk across the fields will bring you to a Michelin star restaurant as well as other pubs and local shops.

There is plenty to explore in and around the Brecon Beacons but you may not want to wander far from this wonderful cottage which incidentally was noted by The Times as ‘Best Romantic Hideaway’.

3. Chewton Glen Tree-House Hampshire

The Chewton Glen Tree-House is hidden away in a secluded wooded valley in the New Forest. Set high up on stilts above the forest, the tree house offers amazing views and everything you could possibly want for a romantic and completely unique honeymoon.

Inside you will find a lounge area with cosy sofas and flat screen tv, a well fitted kitchenette and a separate bedroom with king-sized bed. An outside terrace, provides a hot tub and a comfortable seating area. It’s hard to imagine all this is actually 35 feet above ground.

This is a truly special place where you won’t ever want your honeymoon to end!

4. Sark Channel Islands

As you set foot on Sark you could be forgiven for thinking you have stepped back in time. This beautiful island, with its population of just 600 is so tranquil and peaceful. This is partly due to the fact that no cars are allowed on the island.

The only form of transport here is the humble bicycle. Although there is a tractor, and a horse and carriage which will carry your luggage to your hotel. There are just a small handful of quaint hotels and guest houses, where you will find good old fashioned hospitality.

You will never be bored with the beauty of this island with its views across to France, the flowers, wildlife, and cliffs and caves to explore. Spend your days swimming, or hire a bike and tour the coastal paths – stopping at the many bays and sandy coves to picnic.

Sark feels like a million miles away from the noise, and the hustle and bustle of the real world, a place so tranquil and peaceful, you know you will be back one day to relive your honeymoon.

5. Mary’s Cottage Skye

If you have ever wanted to just get away from it all, to wind down after such a busy time, then Skye is the perfect place for your honeymoon. And in the midst of all this beautiful highland scenery you can find Mary’s Cottage.

This gorgeous thatched cottage is located in the small crofting village of Elgol, and is a real romantic retreat, offering peace and tranquility in bucket loads. Inside the cottage a large stove stands in a large stone fireplace. There is a fully fitted kitchen and in the bedroom there is a veiled boxed bed. All the stone floors have under floor heating.

6. Rooky’s Nook Cottage Cornwall

Hiding away in the small rural hamlet of Trewalder is Rooky’s Nook cottage. This charming cottage was once a blacksmith’s workshop, but has been lovingly transformed into a beautiful, completely detached, romantic retreat – just the perfect place to enjoy your honeymoon.
