7 Wedding Trends For 2012

For couples who are planning to marry next year, it’s interesting to know what the trends are likely to be. And although some things will never change, there are however, some very interesting new trends forecast for next year’s brides and grooms to consider.

1. Wedding Gowns

Next season’s gown are all about texture and colour. And not just pastels – bold colours are definitely going to be very popular.

But we shall still see dresses with figure hugging corset bodices, nipped in waists and soft flowing skirts.

And of course, we are going to continue to see a lot of sleeves, lace, and illusion necklines on wedding gowns next year, thanks to the recent royal wedding.

2. Wedding Themes

One of the first things you need to do before you can start planning your wedding is to choose a theme. Your whole wedding will revolve around it, so it needs to be one that reflects you and your husband-to-be.

Some themes which are expected to be popular next year are:

Vintage

Scour the vintage clothes shops for an authentic wedding dress – sheer romantic elegance.

60s theme

Send invitations in the shape of a 45rpm record, hire a Beatles tribute band, wear a dress from the decade

Outdoor and rustic

Hire a barn for your reception, pick all your flowers from the garden, use lots of green, think shabby-chic.

3. Flowers

Staying with the romantic theme, most brides are choosing to carry a posy, rather than a large bouquet.

Big blooms such as peonies, in pale pink or ivory, tied with organza ribbon, or just a couple of white lilies or white roses teamed with lily of the valley are perfect for any bride.

4. Cash and Gift Certificates

These days most couples have lived together, often for quite a long time, before their marriage, and have everything they need for their home. So it’s becoming very popular for guests to give couples a wedding gift of money.

Some travel agents now offer gift certificates which can be used towards the cost of honeymoons, flight upgrades, or hotel room upgrades. These are also very popular, and definitely a useful gifts to give to the newly married couple.

5. Dessert table

A trend that is sure to be popular at weddings next year is to have a dessert bar. This means your guests can help themselves from a selection of sweet treats like mini cup-cakes, whoopee pies, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies.

So, no need to buy an extortionately priced wedding cake, which many people don’t like anyway.

But if you really must have a centrepiece on your table, then a chocolate fountain should do the trick.

6. DIY Weddings

It’s easy to see why DIY weddings are becoming so popular. It’s about making your special day day completely unique, and the best part is, the planning is such fun.

Just be your own wedding planner. Make lots of to-do lists and rope in friends and family to help design and make your stationery, your centre pieces, your flowers, even your reception menu.

Everybody will love being a part of your special day and you will have a day to remember.

7. Destination Weddings

Destination weddings continue to grow in popularity and this trend is set to continue next year. There are many reasons couples choose a destination wedding. It’s easy to get married almost anywhere in the world now.

It’s a unique experience, often in an exotic location they have always dreamed of, and of course it’s a wedding and a honeymoon all rolled into one.
