How To Plan An Autumn Wedding

At this time of year, just a short stroll through your local park will remind you just how beautiful the colours of Autumn are – yellows, oranges, rusts, deep reds, golds and greens. So if you are planning to marry next year, why not use these colours as your theme, and have an Autumn wedding.

The Venue

An Autumnal wedding really deserves a special venue. Perhaps a country house, with beautiful manicured gardens. Perfect lawns and trees of red and gold will be a wonderful backdrop for your photographs.

Your Wedding Gown

The dress you choose to wear on your wedding day is a very personal thing.  You will know when you have found your perfect dress. Although many brides choose a burgundy dress to blend in with the Autumn theme,  there are no rules – it’s your day, you are the bride. Choose a dress that feels comfortable, and makes you feel beautiful – a dress that you know your new husband will love.

Food and Drink

It’s not difficult to give your reception meal an Autumnal feel when you consider the wonderful, colourful foods that are around at this time of year. Take a look at these ideas for serving up an Autumn menu:

  • Hot spiced apple cider
  • Mulled cranberry cider
  • Butternut squash soup
  • Pumpkin soup
  • Pecan pie
  • Pumpkin pie
  • Pork roasted glazed with honey mustard and topped with sauteed apple slices
  • Turkey or chicken with roasted root vegetables – think carrots, turnips, onions, swedes
  • Braised red cabbage with apple and bacon
  • Fruit tarts with apple flavoured whipped cream
  • Apple cake served with pecans and cream

Flowers

Flowers are a very important part of every wedding, and at this time of year there is such a vast array of beautiful colours to choose from. Use flowers not only in your bouquet, but also for your centerpieces, and for decorating your tables.

By scattering lots of different coloured leaves, and twigs and berries over the tables you can use nature to create a real Autumnal feel to your wedding reception.

The Wedding Cake

Of course every wedding needs a wedding cake. Everyone looks forward to the cake cutting – it’s one of the most photographed parts of the day. A cake for an Autumnal wedding doesn’t need to cost a fortune. Just add twigs, leaves, berries and flowers to a basic iced wedding cake. If you prefer something a little less traditional, then how about a cheesecake topped with different seasonal fruits and berries.
